The South Korean stock market has seen unprecedented trading speed, as measured by the monthly stock rotation ratio, which increased to 43.28% in May. This rapid increase indicates excessive trading, putting investors at risk of overheating.
월간 상장주식 회전율 43% 동학개미운동 2022년 필적 단기매매 리스크 과열 경고 주식투자 열풍 속에 국내 증시에서 손바뀜 속도가 4년 만에 가장 빠른 수준까지 올라왔다. 그만큼 단기 매매가 극성을 부리고 있다는 뜻이다.
전문가들은 과열된 투자 열기 속에서 투자자 스스로 냉정하게 리스크 진단에 나서라고 조언했다. 17일 한국거래소에 따르면 지난달 국내 증시 월간 상장주식 회전율은 43.28%로 집계됐다. 이는 ‘동학개미운동’이 한창이던 2022년 4월 44.91%를 기록한 이후 4년 만에 가장 높은 수준이다. 상장주식 회전율은 일정 기간 거래량을 상장주식 수로 나눈 지표다. 지난 한 달간 거래량이 전체 상장 주식 수 대비 40%를 웃돌았을 정도로 빠르게 주식 손바뀜이 일어났다는 뜻이다.
올 들어 회전율 상승세는 뚜렷하다. 전체 시장 상장주식 회전율은 1월 31.29%, 2월 34.08%에서 3월 40.55%, 4월 43.28%로 빠르게 높아졌다. 지난해 월평균 회전율은 22.76%였다. 5월 들어서도 고회전 장세는 이어지고 있다. 이달 일평균 환산 회전율은 1.79%로, 4월 일평균 회전율 1.97%보다 다소 둔화됐지만 지난해 일평균 회전율 평균치 1.13%를 크게 상회한다.
국내 증시의 손바뀜 속도는 해외 주요국과 비교해도 매우 높은 편이다. 금융감독원에 따르면 4월 기준 일평균 회전율은 코스피 1.48%, 코스닥 2.56%로, 미국 S&P500이나 일본 닛케이를 웃돌았다. 특히 이달 들어서는 거래대금 증가세가 두드러지고 있다. 15일까지 전체 시장 일평균 거래대금은 69조7634억원으로, 4월 일평균 거래대금 43조6312억원보다 약 59.9% 증가했다. 주식 수 기준 손바뀜은 지난달에 비해 둔화됐지만 거래대금 기준으로는 자금 거래 강도가 오히려 더 커진 모습이다.
회전율 상승은 유동성이 풍부하고 투자자 관심이 높다는 신호로 볼 수 있지만 단기 매매가 과도하게 집중되고 있다는 경고음으로도 해석된다. 지수 상승세와 주식투자 열풍 속에 거래 속도까지 빨라지면서 시장에서는 과열 여부와 투자자 리스크를 함께 점검해야 한다는 지적이 나온다.
