According to the Nonsan City Election Commission on the 4th, in the election for Nonsan City Constituency 1 of the Chungnam provincial council, Democratic Party member-elect Gi Ho-yeop and People Power Party candidate Yoon Gi-hyeong each received 11,592 votes, resulting in a tie. The commission then conducted a detailed recount to verify the classification of invalid ballots and whether any ballots were mixed.

During the recount, three ballots initially treated as invalid were recognized as valid, which decided the race. Of these, two were counted for member-elect Gi Ho-yeop and one for candidate Yoon Gi-hyeong. The final tally came to 11,594 votes for member-elect Gi Ho-yeop and 11,593 for candidate Yoon Gi-hyeong.

Gi secured victory by just 1 vote, producing the most dramatic finish in this Chungnam local election. The Public Official Election Act stipulates that if candidates receive the same number of votes, the older candidate is declared elected.

An official of the Nonsan election commission said, “After a tie result emerged, we contacted both candidates and began the recount at around 4:30 a.m. on the 4th. ” People Power Party candidate Yoon Gi-hyeong for the Chungnam Provincial Council .
